Key results
In the twelve months of 2021, the volume of aluminum production at RUSAL plants amounted to 3,764 thousand tons, almost unchanged (+0.2%) compared to the previous year. Sales of aluminum as a whole decreased by 0.5% - to 3,904 thousand tons. At the same time, aluminum sales in Russia increased by 18.8% and amounted to 865 thousand tons. If we take into account aluminum sent to RUSAL's enterprises for the production of foil, car rims, aluminum powder and other products, the total volume of deliveries to the Russian and CIS market reached a record 1.2 million tons (+19.6% compared to 2020).
During the reporting year, the price of aluminum on the London Metal Exchange (LME) reached a level higher than $3,000 per ton. This was due to significant increases in natural gas prices and low supply of electricity from renewable energy sources, resulting in a sharp increase in the price of electricity in Europe. In 2021, global demand for primary aluminum increased by 8.8% to 69 million tons.
Foil and packaging
In 2021, RUSAL plants produced 109 thousand tons of foil and packaging materials (+5.2%).
