Armenian trade sector`s turnover up by 7.5% in 2021

ArmInfo. In 2021, the turnover of Armenia`s trade sector totaled AMD 3,900bln ($6.7bln) - a 7.5% increase against a 14% decrease in 2020. 

According to the RA Statistical Committee, the cause is an upward  trend in the trade in cars, whole and retail sales in general.   

Last December alone, Armenia`s trade turnover totaled AMD 389.5bln  ($802.8mln) - 20.6% growth.  Growth in the retail, wholesale trade  and the trade in cars accounts for the growth in Armenia's trade  sector.   

In 2021, retail trade totaled AMD 1,400bln ($2.8bln) - a 1.6%  increase against a 17.3% decline in 2020. 

In the retail trade structure, shops (including supermarkets)  recorded the largest turnover - AMD 1.1bln or 78.2% (with a 2.2%  year-on-year decline), with other sales outlets recording a turnover  of AMD 208.8bln or 14.4% (20.1% year-on-year growth). Consumer  markets recorded a turnover of AMD 68.9bln or 4.8% (23.5%  year-on-year growth). Stalls and stands reported AMD 22.2bln or 1.5%  (a year-on-year decline of 10.7%), and agricultural markets, AMD  16.3bln or 1.1% (17.4% year-on-year growth). 

Wholesale trade totaled AMD 1,800bln ($3.6bln) - a 12.2% annual  growth against a 9% decline in 2020. 

In 2021, the car trade totaled AMD 118.8bln ($235.9mln) - 15.7%  growth against a 35.5% decline in 2020. 

Wholesale trade dominates Armenia's trade turnover (53.7%), followed  by retail trade (42.8%) and car trade (3.5%). 

The average AMD/USD exchange rate was AMD 485.14/$1 last /December,  and AMD 503.77/$1 in 2021.
