Population of Armenia in 2021 decreased by 0.08%

ArmInfo. as of January 1, 2022 The population of Armeniadecreased by 0.08% per annum or 2.3 thousand people, amounting to 2.961 million people. This is evidenced  by the data of the RA Statistical Committee.

According to the source, as of the reporting date, the urban  population was 1.891.9 million people, which is 63.8% of the total  number of citizens, and 1,069.1 million people lived in villages or  36.2%. The number of urban residents decreased by 0.2% year-on-year,  while the number of rural residents, on the contrary, increased by  0.1%.

At the same time, the population of Yerevan slightly increased over  the reporting period (by 0.09%), amounting to 1.092.7 million people,  i.e. 36.9% of the total population of the country is concentrated in  the capital.

According to statistics, the most densely populated are the two  regions adjacent to the capital - Armavir (264.3 thousand people) and  Ararat (256.6 thousand people). They are followed by: Kotayk (251  thousand), Shirak (230.2 thousand), Gegharkunik (227.8 thousand),  Lori (211.7 thousand). As of the reporting date, 134.7 thousand,  124.7 thousand and 119.7 thousand people lived in Syunik, Aragatsotn  and Tavush, respectively, and Vayots Dzor continues to be the most  sparsely populated region of the country, where only 47.6 thousand  people live.
