ArmInfo. In 2021, 36,585 children were born in Armenia, which is 0.6% higher than the indicator of a year ago, while a 1.5% increase was registered in the  two-year context. According to the RA Statistical Committee, the  birth rate per 1,000 inhabitants in the reporting period amounted to  12.4 per thousand, against 12.3% in 2020 and 12.2 per thousand two  years earlier.

The highest birth rate was registered in the city of Yerevan, where  14,171 children were born during the reporting period. Over 3  thousand children were born in Kotayk, Ararat and Armavir regions,  more than 2 thousand in Gegharkunik, Lori, Shirak. Over 1000 children  in 2021 were born in Syunik, Aragatsotn and Tavush. And the lowest  birth rate was registered in Vayots Dzor region, where only 589  children were born.

According to statistics, during the reporting period, 34,658 people  died in Armenia, which is 4.2% less than a year ago, with an increase  of 32.4% over 2 years. The mortality rate in the country amounted to  11.7 ppm, against 12.2 ppm for the same period in 2020, and 8.8 ppm  in 2019.

The absolute value of natural population growth amounted to 1927  people, which is several times higher than the figure of a year ago,  and in comparison with 2019, a decline of 80.4% was registered. The  coefficient of natural population growth was 0.7 ppm, against 0.1 ppm  for the same period in 2020, and 3.4 ppm in 2019.

According to statistical data, the population of Armenia as of  January 1, 2022 amounted to 2.961 million people, having decreased by  0.08% or 2.3 thousand people on a y-o-y terms.
