ArmInfo. The trilateral working group on unblocking all economic and transport links in the region, co-chaired by the Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia, will continue its work. RA Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan told journalists on February 17.
"At the moment, I will not say anything about a specific date, but, presumably, yes, work on this platform will continue," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
According to him, representatives of Russian Railways (Russian Railways JSC) also participated in the negotiations on restarting the railway (Yeraskh-Dzhulfa-Ordubad-Meghri-Horadiz-ed. note). Mher Grigoryan stressed that active cooperation is being carried out with the company. "Regardless of the operation of the trilateral platform, we need discussions on bilateral relations, because, as you know, regardless of the circumstances of the unblocking, the Russian Railways subsidiary is our operator and concessionaire. This means that all types of technical documentation related to the design, further operation, of course, it is advisable to discuss with partners. In the end, they will be the operators," the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia explained.
It should be noted that earlier Mher Grigoryan, representing Armenia in the trilateral working group, said that the construction of a 45-kilometer railway in the Meghri section would cost about $200 million and take up to three years. And during the government meeting, he said that the Armenian government will strengthen contacts with the Russian Railways and its subsidiary, the South Caucasus Railway, the operator of the Armenian railways. "Russian Railways is one of the most serious organizations in the world in its industry, and the potential, experience, and information that they possess are, of course, very important for the implementation and further operation of this project," he said.
