Armenian government to subsidize regular Poti-Kavkaz ferry service  for six months

ArmInfo. The Armenian government will subsidize the ferry service between the ports of Poti (Georgia) and Kavkaz (Russia) for 6 months. The corresponding decision was  approved on March 24 at a government meeting.

According to Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan, for many years,  Armenia periodically faces various problems when importing and  exporting goods: the Upper Lars highway was closed, there were  accumulations of cars from different sides. In today's conditions,  when food security is becoming one of the key issues, a fundamental  solution is needed, the minister noted. "We propose to subsidize the  regular Poti- Kavkaz ferry service, which operates twice a week, in  order to be able to transport a significant part of our logistics  cargo transportation by rail," Kerobyan explained.

According to the head of the Ministry of Economy, it will  significantly increase Armenia's food security, logistical  accessibility of the republic, and the competitiveness of the  Armenian industry.

In response, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recalled that  this is not the first attempt to establish a ferry service, the  previous ones were unsuccessful. He expressed hope that this time the  attempt would be successful.
