ArmInfo. From 2002 to the present day, Turkish citizens have purchased 72 properties in Armenia. Head of the RA Cadastre Committee Suren Tovmasyan said this on March 28 in an interview with journalists.
"Most of them are apartments, some are small public facilities. We do not see any problems associated with this," Tovmasyan said, noting that citizens of any state can purchase non-agricultural property in Armenia.
As for the citizens of Azerbaijan, according to the head of the Cadastre, the acquisition of real estate by them is possible only if they have a tourist passport. At the moment, about 5-6 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan own real estate in the RA. "If a person has a tourist passport, then, roughly speaking, everything is clear, and heshe comes here and acquires the appropriate property," Tovmasyan said. The head of the Committee found it difficult to answer in what periods the Turks and Azerbaijanis bought real estate especially actively. Similar transactions took place in different years - in 2010, 2017, 2018, etc. At the same time, Tovmasyan refuted rumors about the intensification of real estate purchases by citizens of these countries in recent times.
Earlier, there were rumors in the media that the residents of the Aragatsotn region were warning that Turks, who presented themselves as Arabs, were purchasing a large number of land plots from them, in particular, in Ohanavan and Aparan. In a conversation with journalists, Chairman of the State Property Management Committee Arnak Avetisyan assured that the alienation of state property to non-residents in Armenia is excluded. "That is, only citizens of the Republic of Armenia can own a land plot in Armenia. And in terms of state property, such cases are generally excluded," he said.
It should be reminded that in a conversation with journalists, Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan said that Turkish citizens have always acquired property in Armenia. According to him, the Armenian economy has always been open to Turkey. "Always, except for 2021," the minister said. The Turks also freely acquired real estate in Armenia and invested in local businesses. He did not specify which companies and how much investment he is talking about. For more detailed information, the minister suggested journalists to contact the Cadastre Committee, the State Register and the Central Depository. The head of the Ministry of Economy assured that there are no strategically important objects on this list.
