ArmInfo. As a result of the prevalence of mortality over birth rate in Q1 2022, a natural population decline of 609 people was recorded in Armenia, while in the same period of 2021 and 2020, a natural population increase of 351 people and 106 people was recorded, respectively.
This is evidenced by the data of the RA Statistical Committee. In particular, in Q1 2022, 8,098 children were born in Armenia, which is 6% lower than the indicator of a year ago, and higher by 7.9% compared to the same period in 2020. The birth rate per 1,000 inhabitants for the reporting period amounted to 11.1 ppm, against 11.8 ppm a year earlier and 10.3 ppm two years ago.
The highest birth rate was registered in Yerevan, where 2520 children were born during the reporting period. Next come the regions of Kotayk, Ararat and Armavir, where over 800 children were born. More than 600 children were born in Lori region. There are more than 500 children born in Shirak and Gegharkunik regions. Over 400 children were born in Aragatsotn. More than 300 children were born in Tavush and Syunik. And the lowest birth rate is traditionally registered in the Vayots Dzor region - 157 children.
During Q1, 8,707 people died in Armenia, which is 5.3% higher than the indicator of a year ago, and in a two-year context, the growth was 18%. The death rate in the country in Q12022 increased to 11.9 ppm from 11.3 ppm in 2021 (against 10.1 ppm in 2020).
As of April 1, 2022, population of Armenia amounted to 2.962 million people, having decreased in y-o-y terms by 0.1% or 2.3 thousand people.
