ArmInfo. The Armenian government may allocate 6-7 billion drams for the construction of the Tatev-Aghvani road instead of the already allocated 1.5 billion drams. Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Gnel Sanosyan stated this to journalists on June 15.
According to him, the amount was not used due to poor quality work on certain sections of the road. If the road builders eliminate all the shortcomings at their own expense, the entire amount of the contract will be paid. In general, as the minister noted, the road is usable, but there are problems in some sections. After the 44-day war and the change in the situation, this road has always served the interests of the state, Sanosyan stressed.
It should be noted that after the invasion of Azerbaijani troops in Syunik after the 44-day war, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia is not in a position to fight for the occupied sections of the Goris-Kapan and Kapan-Meghri interstate roads. The AR has established two customs checkpoints there. Armenia had to start restoring the alternative Tatev-Agvani-Kapan strategic road.
It should be noted that more than 5 billion drams were allocated from the budget for the reconstruction of this 43-kilometer section, another $2.5 million was given for asphalting the road from the Devil's Bridge to Tatev.
It should be noted that the Tatev-Agvani-Kapan Alternative Road was built by three different construction companies. The road sections built by two of them were not accepted by the state due to problems and were not put into operation. The state's deal with contractors is currently being studied by the Prosecutor General's Office.
