Armenia could be major supplier of sugar beet seeds to EAEU  member-states

ArmInfo.Armenia could soon be a major supplier of sugar beet seeds to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member-states as Armenia has a favorable climate for sugar  beet seeds, experts said at a meeting between Artak Kamalyan,  Minister in charge of Industry and Agriculture, Eurasian Economic  Commission, and a delegation led by Vice-Speaker of the Russian State  Duma Alexey Gordeyev.

Individual sorts of sugar bet seeds are being tended in Armenia now,  and supplied to the common market, particularly to Russia and  Belarus, will be arranged if the tests prove successful.

The Armenian side showed special interest in cooperating with Russia  and with the other EAEU states in a number of fields, particularly  poultry farming, hothouse development, seed production.

"Since our Union is working amid unprecedented economic challenges,  integrated cooperation between our states in industrial and  agricultural development is acquiring special importance. And we are  attaching paramount importance to it," Mr Kamalyan said. He stated  that unique opportunities are available now for developing the fields  for Armenia and its partners to utilize their high potential in  implementing joint projects.

The sides discussed the signing of an international agreement on  universal organic production requirements.

Mr Kamalyan highlighted the importance of raising the agricultural  education level and of research and development. He mentioned a  training course in viniculture by the RA National Academy of Sciences  and the Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy.

"The successful pilot project has shown great potential and the  readiness of EAEU educational institutions to develop cooperation in  the fields where each partner has laid the groundwork," the minister  said.

The Russian delegation visited the Armenian Wine company.  Representatives of Armenia's business community informed the Russian  delegation of the problems caused by amendments to relevant Russian  laws. Thee new requirements restrict the supply of genuine Armenian  products to Russia and create unequal competitive conditions.  The  sides reached a number of agreements.
