ArmInfo.The Eurasian Economic Commission has approved Armenia's indicative balance of a number of agricultural products, particularly wheat, barley, corn and sunflower oil, the RA Ministry of Economy reports.
This year, Armenia's wheat demand is 377,000 tons (with 255,000 tons to be imported from Russia by the end of this year), 43,000 tons of barley, 60,000 tons of corn and 27,000 tons of sunflower oil (which will be imported from Russia).
Gevorg Ghazaryan, Head of the Food Safety Department, said that Armenia has no risk of crops deficit now. With respect to the export of this product group and Armenia's demand, hardly any problems may arise. This year, Russia's wheat output has totaled 76mln tons, with 23mln tons exported, with Armenia's demand being only 300,000 tons. Armenia meets 70% of its demand for wheat. Last year, Armenia decreased its wheat imports by 23.4%, down to 271.3 thousand tons. The customs value totaled $62.4mln (13.8%). Russia is the major exporter of wheat for Armenia (99.4%), with the rest imported from Georgia.
