ArmInfo. The ferry communication between Poti and Kavkaz, a port in Russia, will be launched in August. The schedule will be released in coming days, Minister of Economy of Armenia Vahan Kerobyan said in an interview to ARMENPRESS.
"I think we will definitely launch it this month. It seems, all problems have been solved. And now, the only problem that should be agreed upon is that we should receive permits only for each product in order to be able to transfer this or that cargo. But generally, it seems, we are ready for the release of the schedule. It will happen in coming days", he added.
One of the world's largest shipping companies, APM Terminals Poti, will operate the ferry service. The company imposed sanctions on Russia over Ukraine, which resulted in restrictions on the route. Armenia's Ministry of Economy actively negotiated removal of restrictions on transportation of Armenian cargoes from Poti to Kavkaz.
The ferry service will connect Armenia's railway with the railroad system of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The government plans to subsidize the ferry service, while the South Caucasus Railway will reduce tariffs by 30% for cargoes bound to Russia. The Georgian and Russian railways will reduce their tariffs by 25% and 50% respectively.
