Economy Minister: the number of jobs in the high-tech sector grew by more than 50%

ArmInfo. Almost all sectors  of economic activity in Armenia registered an increase in the number  of jobs. Armenian Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan stated this in  the parliament, answering journalists' questions.

In particular, he noted that this is due to the opening of new  companies and the increase in vacancies.

The minister said that as of September this year, 691 thousand jobs  were registered in Armenia, while in September last year this figure  was 642 thousand. <That is, about 49 thousand people were employed.  This is a very high unprecedented figure>, the minister said.

At the same time, Kerobyan indicated that the highest growth in jobs  is observed in the field of high technologies. Since the beginning of  the year, the sector has provided jobs for 16.5 thousand people,  while today the number of employed in the high-tech sector has  reached 24.5 thousand people. "This happened both due to the arrival  of foreign specialists (relocators) and due to the opening of new  jobs in Armenia itself," the minister explained. He positively  assessed the registered indicators, since the sector has high  productivity, and the average salary exceeds 1 million drams.

According to him, the decrease was registered exclusively in the  retail sector. Documentary trade turnover has grown by more than 20%,  however, as the minister noted, stores and retailers are transforming  themselves, moving to the online trading format, in order to increase  productivity.

" There is growth in all other sectors as well, in particular, in the  industrial and financial sectors, ," he concluded.

It should be noted that according to the Statistical Committee, in Q2  2022, the unemployment rate in Armenia decreased to 13% from 14.5% in  the same period a year earlier, being lower than both the indicator  for Q1 (14.8%) and the indicator for the entire 2021 ( 15.3%).
