ArmInfo. There is one commonality for all regulators today - no one knows how to regulate the cryptosector well. On January 31, answering journalists' questions, said the Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia Martin Galstyan. He noted that this issue is being discussed in Armenia, in particular, in the Central Bank, but it is too early to say that it was possible to come to the final, most effective model for regulating the cryptosector.
"Familiarization with the current point of view of the Central Banks of different countries shows that their main approach is that the crypt is not a currency, but a speculative asset, basically equated to real estate in the world," Galstyan explained. At the same time, he mentioned that there is an item related to digital currency in the work program of the Central Bank of the current year. In this regard, the head of the Central Bank said: "We intend to study the topic related to the cryptosector in order to understand the degree of its expediency for Armenia."
In the summer of 2022, the State Revenue Committee of Armenia appealed to the Central Bank of the country with a call to ensure the regulation of the cryptosector. Such a need, as noted then by the head of the Committee Rustam Badasyan, arose due to cases of tax evasion in this field, money laundering and other risk factors.
