ArmInfo. The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) forecasts 7.2% inflation in Armenia by the end of the 1st quarter of this year. This February, 8.1% inflation was recorded in Armenia - no change as against this January.
The experts explain it by an accelerating rise in food prices, particularly in vegetable prices. The inflation was curbed by a slower rise in prices for all other food and nonfood products. The AMD appreciation and lower external price pressure on imported products play their role as well. EDB forecasts 4.6% inflation in Armenia by the end of 2023.
The experts point out gradually decelerating economic activity early this year. Specifically, this January saw 10.5% growth in economic activity as against 12.8% last December. According to experts, the reason is the dynamics recorded in the services and trade sectors (29.5% and 17.7% respectively this January as against 27.9 % and 23.9 % respectively last December), which is evidence of gradual demand stabilization in the country.
Meanwhile, the construction sector recorded 12.2% growth as against 7.3% the previous month. Early this year, Armenia's exports showed a 2.3-fold growth as against the corresponding period last year.
