
ArmInfo.Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of Armenia Vache Terteryan received delegations from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the French Development Agency (AFD).
The key topic of the meeting was the challenges associated with climate change, in particular, the development of irrigation systems and drinking water supply systems. Particular attention was paid to the opportunities for partners to participate in programs for the construction of reservoirs. Yasmin Siddiqi, ADB Director, Environment, Natural Resources & Agriculture Division, Central and West Asia Department noted that the Bank implements similar programs in 10 countries of the world. In this regard, she attached importance to studying the potential of Armenia and developing a strategy for the implementation of new programs.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Head of the Water Committee of Armenia Karen Daghbashyan , who presented the progress of the construction of reservoirs in the country and the current state of the existing 87 reservoirs.
As a result of the discussions, an agreement was reached to organize visits to Georgia and France to study international experience in the water sector.
ADB has been working with Armenia since 2005. As of 2022, the Bank provided Armenia with 37 loans, grants, as well as technical assistance in the amount of about $1.6 billion, which were directed to the development of transport, financial, energy, water, infrastructure development, etc. Effective cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the AFD began in 2012. According to the data published on the website of the Ministry of Finance of Armenia, as of the beginning of 2022, the AFD portfolio in our country is 125.5 million euros.
