
ArmInfo. Sargis Hovhannisyan was reappointed to the position of the head of the State Protection Service . RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed the corresponding decision.
Hovhannisyan, who previously held the position of deputy head of the State Protection Service of the National Security Service, was appointed head of the SPS by a decree of then President of the Republic Armen Sarkissian on December 24, 2020.
In May 2022, Hovhannisyan was involved in a scandalt with a Mediahub film crew. On May 2, according to the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office, the department recorded an incident during which the head of the RA State Security Service, Sargis Hovhannisyan, kicked a Mediahub.am cameraman who was covering protests in Yerevan.
Back in the summer of 2021, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during the presentation of the government's program for the next 5th anniversary, announced that the Armenian government plans to seriously reform the national security system. On November 24, 2022, at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, it was decided that the State Protection Service will be separated from the National Security Service and becomes an operative body under the Prime Minister.
