ArmInfo.Capital investments of $800 million and bringing the capacity of solar plants to 2000 MW from the existing 400 MW will make solar energy the main source of energy in Armenia. President of New Energy Group, former Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia Hayk Harutyunyan, shares this opinion.
In particular, most of these funds - about $ 500 million - should be directed to the modernization of the network infrastructure (for the Armenia-Iran power transmission line with a capacity of 400 kW, and modern software for forecasting and mode control). Another $100 million will be invested in education and research/development. At the same time, according to the expert, if a competent policy is pursued, these investments can be made by private traders.
This policy will additionally provide Armenia's GDP with at least $ 200 million, provide at least 3,000 additional well-paid full-time new jobs throughout the country and about 5,000 jobs during the construction period, he noted.
Harutyunyan also forecasts a 5-fold increase in electricity exports - up to about $500 million. "This is a program that Armenia must adopt to ensure sustainable development and true independence!" Hayk Harutyunyan concluded.
