ArmInfo. Armenia has a high potential in the field of innovation and high technology. This was stated by Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Olga Algayerova during a meeting with the Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia Robert Khachatryan.
At the same time, she noted that the UNECE highly appreciates the partnership with the Ministry of High- Tech Industry.
According to the press service of the ministry, during the meeting, the second report prepared by the UNECE together with representatives of a number of government agencies; Innovation for Sustainable Development Review (I4SDR) of Armenia was presented, the purpose of which is to analyze the current state and development of the national innovation system of Armenia, to identify existing gaps and providing clear proposals for their neutralization.
It is reported that the parties discussed issues related to improving the methodology of statistics on innovation, as well as the possible involvement of the potential of the Armenian Diaspora in order to stimulate innovation in the agricultural sector of Armenia.
For his part, Robert Khachatryan stressed that the Ministry of High-Tech Industry is ready to assist in the implementation of UNECE initiatives in the field of high technologies.
It should be reminded that at the end of May, at the budget hearings in the commissions of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Minister Khachatryan said that the turnover of the Armenian high- tech sector exceeded $1 billion. He noted that over 20,000 people are currently employed in the field. Last year alone, 4,000 new companies were registered.
