Works on the construction of the first sanitary landfill in Armenia within the framework of the "Solid Waste Management Program of Kotayk and Gegharkunik Regions" are at the final stage, Armenia's Premier Nikol Pashinyan was told on July 10 during a meeting in the Kotayk regional administration, specifying that 90% of the construction work has already been completed.
According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, presenting the results of the activities of the regional administration for 2022, it was reported that for 2018-2023. 356 subvention programs have been implemented and are being implemented in the region. In particular, in 2022, 60 subvention programs worth 12 billion drams were approved, 80% of which were implemented. For 2023, 40 projects worth 11 billion 227 million drams have been approved.
The Prime Minister was also informed about the work carried out in the field of urban planning in the reporting year 2022. Thus, 92 buildings have been legalized, 121 are in the process of registration, 89 have been suspended as part of measures to identify and prevent unauthorized buildings.
Reporting on the performance of municipal budgets' own revenues, it was reported that property taxes on real estate amounted to 1 billion 377.9 million drams, vehicle property tax - 1 billion 829.4 million drams, local duties - 313.3 million drams, state fees - 99.2 million drams, land and property rental - 275.8 million drams, garbage collection fee - 550.5 million drams.
Regarding the work carried out in the field of education, it was reported that in the reporting year, as part of the mandatory certification of teachers, 789 teachers passed certification, 134 teachers passed voluntary certification, an engineering laboratory "Armat" was opened in 27 schools, 15 thousand children were covered with school meals in 88 schools. 430 students, 39 thousand 909 students used the school subscription system, the number of tutor schools is 3, distance learning is used by 2 schools.
In the health sector, projects worth about 53 million drams have been implemented through savings.
Regarding the work carried out in the field of agriculture, the head of government was informed that there are 4535 hectares of orchards in the region, of which 878 hectares are occupied by intensive orchards. 155 ha have anti-hail network, 376 ha - drip irrigation. Last year, with the help of the state support program, 4 "smart" livestock farms were created in the region.
Over the past year, 45 km of highways of republican and interstate significance were overhauled in the region, and average repairs were completed on 47 km of the road.
In April 2021, it was reported that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU), together with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of Armenia, officially began the construction of a new solid waste landfill in the city of Hrazdan. The new solid waste landfill will comply with EU standards and will greatly contribute to improving the environment in Hrazdan and eleven other settlements. The EBRD provided a ?5.5 million loan, complemented by a ?3.5 million grant from the EU Neighborhood Investment Program and a ?2 million grant from the Eastern European Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) Fund - for construction. The new landfill will be equipped with modern solid waste management processes, will include community solid waste collection and disposal, and will bring great environmental and social benefits to local residents and businesses. The landfill will be located near the Yerevan-Sevan highway, will include twelve settlements, seven of which are located in the Kotayk region (Hrazdan, Abovyan, Nor Hachin, Byureghavan, Charentsavan, Yeghvard, Tsaghkadzor), and five - in the Gegharkunik region (Sevan, Vardenis , Gavar, Martuni, Chambarak).
