USD transactions show manifold increase, with decline in RUB  transactions in Armenia`s interbank foreign exchange market July 10  to 14

ArmInfo. July 10 to 15, 2023, saw  a manifold increase in USD transactions, with a decline in RUB  transactions and no EUR transactions effected for the third week  running. Almost daily USD transactions were effected, with two RUB  transactions effected. No transactions were effected on Tuesday. USD  transactions showed a 9.8-fold increase against a 95.7% decline, with  RUB transactions showing a 59.5% decline against a 26.7% decline. As  a result, the total amount of USD transactions exceeded the total  amount of RUB transactions 6-fold, whereas RUB transactions exceeded  USD transactions 4-fold the previous week. 

During the period under review against the previous period (July 3 to  7) USD, EUR and RUB purchases and sales in the intrabank foreign  exchange market showed a growth against a decline. 

July 10 to 14, 2023, saw a slight AMD depreciation against the USD,  AMD 385.8/$1 to AMD 386.3/$1, with AMD depreciation against EUR, AMD  420.5 to AMD 430/EUR 1 and against the RUB, AMD 4.2/RUB 1 to 4.3/RUB  1. 

On July 14, 2022, the AMD/USD exchange rate was AMD 420/$1, AMD/EUR  exchange rate, AMD 420/$1 and AMD/RUB exchange rate, AMD 6.7/RUB 1,  which is evidence of the AMD appreciation against the USD and RUB and  AMD depreciation against the EUR.

For July 10 to 14, the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA) reports four USD  transactions to the total amount of $9.8 mln in Armenia's interbank  foreign exchange market, at an average exchange rate of AMD 387.48/$1  (against AMD 387.45/$1 the previous week), two RUB transactions to  the total amount of RUB 150mln at an average exchange rate of AMD  4.26/1 RUB (against AMD 4.16/1 RUB the previous week). 

During the period under review, the interbank foreign exchange  market, with transactions effected four days except for Tuesday (July  11) saw USD transactions effected, with RUB transactions, effected on  July 10 and 14. 

During the period under review against the previous week (July 3 to  7), in the intrabank foreign exchange market, USD purchases showed a  61.7% growth against a 14.4% decline, with USD sales showing an 8.7%  growth against a 19.2% decline. The EUR purchases showed a 27.1%  growth against a 12% decline, with EUR sales showing a 19.9% growth  against a 15.6% decline. RUB purchases showed a 7% growth against a  9.4% decline, with RUB sales showing a 2.2% growth a 9.4% decline the  previous week. 

During the period under review, purchases totaled $180.2 mln at an  average exchange rate of AMD 384.77/$1, EUR 33.2mln at an average  exchange rate of AMD 421.70/EUR 1, and RUB 8.7bln at average exchange  rate of AMD 4.23/RUB 1. The sales exceeded $137.8 mln at an average  exchange rate of AMD 387.66/$1, EUR 51.8mln at an average exchange  rate of AMD 429.14/EUR 1, and RUB 3.1bln at an average exchange rate  of AMD 4.30/1RUB.

In the first quarter of 2023, in Armenia's intrabank foreign exchange  market, purchases totaled $1.7bln, EUR 435mln and over RUB 153.5mln.  The sales totaled $2.2bln, EUR 848.4mln and over RUB 69.1bln, which  formed the following buying rates in March 2023: AMD 386.91/$1, AMD  413.43/EUR 1 and AMD 5.06/RUB 1 against AMD 392.89/$1, and AMD  408.27/EUR 1 and RUB 5.96/1 RUB in December 2022.  The selling rates  were as follow: AMD 396.27/$1, AMD 420.16/EUR 1, and AMD 6.07/RUB 1. 

In the first quarter of 2023, in the interbank foreign exchange  market, $216mln, EUR 17.7mln and RUB 2.3bln transactions were  effected, with an AMD appreciation against the USD, EUR and RUB to  exchange rates of AMD 388.69/$1, AMD 412.54/EUR 1, AMD 5.10/RUB 1 in  March 2023 against AMD 394.12/$1, AMD 413.23/EUR 1, and AMD 5.8/RUB 1  in December 2022. Weekly EUR transactions were effected in the  interbank foreign exchange market, with the largest transaction  recorded in January (EUR 10.7mln), and the smallest in February (EUR  2mln).  

In 2022, the CBA made interventions in Armenia's foreign exchange  market in April, June-December by purchasing $573.8mln (with $100mln  in June, 81.3mln in August, $80mln in October, $114.1mln in November  and $57.9mln in December), at an exchange rate of AMD 456.16/$1 in  April and AMD 393.5/$1 in December.  

In 2022, in Armenia's intrabank foreign exchange market, purchases  totaled $7bln, over EUR 1.4bln and RUB 259.04bln. The sales totaled  $8.3bln, over EUR 2.3bln and RUB 114.4bln, which formed the following  buying rates in December 2022: AMD 392.89/$1, AMD 408.27/EUR 1 and  AMD 5.96/RUB 1 against AMD 482.42/$1, and AMD 544.20/EUR 1 and RUB  6.53/1 RUB in December 2021. The selling rates were as follow: AMD  396.27/$1, AMD 420.16/EUR 1, and AMD 6.07/RUB 1 against AMD  486.46/$1, AMD 552/EUR 1 and AMD 6.62 in December 2021. In 2022, in  the interbank foreign exchange market, $556.6mln, EUR 28.8mln and RUB  8.7bln transactions were effected, with an AMD appreciation against  the USD to an exchange rate of AMD 394.12/$1 in December 2022 against  AMD 482.95/$1 in December 2021. EUR transactions were effected in  March, May-December 2022, RUB transactions, in March-December, with  the first RUB transactions effected on March 14, 2022. The foreign  stock change has remained idle for the sixth year.
