ArmInfo.Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan calls on the inhabitants of the republic to reconsider their attitude to water, as he believes that "the water crisis is already in Armenia."
According to him, the water crisis is a global problem, and in Armenia, this problem deepens due to the lack of infrastructure or its failure, as well as the attitude towards water. <If we go around the settlements, regions, we will be surprised how big the problem with water is. None of us can imagine the huge scale of the water problem in Armenia>, he said on August 3 at a cabinet meeting.
As the Prime Minister mentioned, he recently witnessed in Gegharkunik region that in one of the largest villages of the country, Nerkin Getashen, there is a serious problem not only of irrigable water, but also of drinking water. At the same time, I saw that water was flowing from big pipes on the roads. <Perhaps there is some cause-and-effect link. On the one hand, people do not have drinking water, on the other hand, we see pipes in different places from which water flows 24 hours a day, and no one says at whose expense this water flows. This is a widespread problem. Let's admit that today the use of water in Armenia is not controlled, it just flows>, said Nikol Pashinyan.
According to the Prime Minister, there is a problem with the lack of knowledge in the field of water management.
Since January 1, 2017, the new single water operator in Armenia - the French Veolia Djur company, - a subsidiary of the French Veolia Enviroment SA, has been operating five water distribution companies across the country:Yerevan Jur, Armvodokanal, Shirak Vodokanal, Lori Vodokanal and Nor Akunk, for a period of 15 years.
