Pashinyan records non-compliance with ban on sale of plastic bags in  country

ArmInfo. The Armenian Ministry of Environment has proposed a total ban on the sale of all types of  plastic bags and disposable tableware. This was stated by head of the  department Hakob Simidyan on August 3 at a government meeting.

Thus, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that yesterday he was  offered a plastic bag in the supermarket, which had already been used  for 5 years. Meanwhile, according to legislative changes adopted in  2019, from January 1, 2022, a ban on the sale of bags up to 50  microns thick began to operate.

In response, Simidyan noted that the communities exercised control as  far as possible, but this did not give a final result. Now the  ministry has taken the initiative to ban the sale of plastic bags and  single-use plastic containers.

Earlier, ArmInfo reported that Armenia plans to ban the sale of  plastic bags with a thickness of more than 50 microns, as well as  disposable plastic utensils and containers used for food packaging,  from 2024.
