ArmInfo. The Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) of Armenia applies mechanisms to control the activities of the Veolia Jur company, the operator of the country's water system. PSRC Chairman Garegin Baghramyan told journalists on August 11, commenting on frequent water cuts in the conditions of a heat of +42.
According to the head of the regulator, during the heat wave, water consumption in the country rises sharply, and often the system is not ready for it. The water management system, Baghramyan continued, requires large investments, despite the seasonal nature of the problem.
On November 29 last year, PSRC approved the revised water tariffs, according to the application of Veolia Jur CJSC (water supply operator in Armenia). By the decision of the regulator, from January 1, 2023, the weighted average tariff has been increased by 8.419 drams per cubic meter. For socially unsecured subscribers (there are about 100,000 of them), the tariff remained at the rate of 180 drams per 1 cubic meter, and for other categories of consumers it increased from 200.47 drams to 208.419 drams. The tariff difference is subsidized by the RA government so that the prices for consumers will not change until the end of 2023. 1.1 billion drams were allocated for this purpose. Veolia Jur CJSC (subsidiary of the French "Veolia Generale des Eaux") is a common water supply and drainage operator in Yerevan and a number of regions of Armenia. Since January 1, 2017, property management of five companies passed to "Veolia Jur": Yerevan Jur, Armavodokanal, "Shirak Vodokanal", "Lori Vodokanal" and "Nor Akunk".
