ArmInfo. At the end of 2022, Armenia increased sugar exports 6.7-fold- up to 1.310 thousand tons, with an increase in customs value 8.5-fold- up to $1.2 million, according to the data of the RA Customs Service.
The volume of exported sugar was almost equally distributed between Georgia (53.7%) and the Russian Federation (46.2%), and very meager volumes were supplied to the markets of Kazakhstan and the USA. The volume of imported sugar year on year increased by 2.3% - up to 76.5 thousand tons, with an increase in customs value by 1.3% to $43.4 million.
Brazil was the main importer of sugar (93.9% against 52.6% a year earlier). And the rest is imported from: China (2.2%), the Netherlands (1.4%), Russia (1.4%), Egypt (1%) and France (0.8%). Much smaller volumes were imported from Belarus, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, India, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Mauritius, and very meager volumes of sugar (1-700 kg) were imported from Madagascar, Hungary, Peru, Paraguay, Reunion, China, Costa - Riki, Laos, Bulgaria, Guatemala, Lebanon, Colombia.
According to previously available data, 99.9% of sugar is imported to Armenia by the Alex-Grig company, owned by the family of Armenian oligarch Samvel Aleksanyan.
