Armenia, India discuss possibilities of transit cargo transportation  through Indian port of Mumbai

ArmInfo. Armenia and India discussed the possibilities of transit cargo transportation through  the Indian port of Mumbai. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy of Armenia, referring to the results of a meeting in Mumbai between Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic  of Armenia Narek Teryan and Rajiv Jalota, Chairman of the Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) and Indian Ports Association

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the third Global Maritime  India Summit 2023.  According to the source, Mr. Jalota introduced  Mr. Teryan to the possibilities of the Mumbai port, and the parties  discussed the possibilities of interaction in this direction. As a  result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on practical steps in  this direction, as well as on possible cooperation in a trilateral  format.  Back in March 2021, the Indian Ambassador to Iran stated  that the country was going to include Armenia in the North-South  transport corridor being established through the Iranian port of  Chabahar.

In May 2023, by decision of the Prime Minister of the Republic of  Armenia, an interdepartmental working group was formed, which should  consider the issues of launching an international multimodal  high-speed route and carrying out operator activities in the Iranian  port of Chabahar. In June, the head of the Ministry of Economy Vahan  Kerobyan said that Armenia could become an operator in the Iranian  port of Chabahar.

The ministry also noted that Armenia is interested in participating  in the new transit route that will connect India with Europe. India,  for its part, is considering the possibility of launching a new  route, which can pass through the Indian port of Mumbai to the  Iranian port of Chabahar, and then through the territory of Armenia  and Georgia to Georgian ports.
