ArmInfo.The information found in a number of Telegram channels that the Yerevan aluminum plant "Armenal" is on the verge of closure is not true, the press service of the enterprise told ArmInfo. It was noted here that the plant continues to operate normally.
According to this information, the management of the merged company "Rusal", which includes "Armenal", presented the Armenian enterprise with a demand to reduce the number of employees by 30% (200 people), with the subsequent possible mothballing of the enterprise itself for the purpose of sale. The deadline has allegedly been set until January 1, 2024.
Meanwhile, the export of aluminum foil, which is produced at Armenal, dropped somewhat in 2023. According to Armenian customs statistics, in the first half of 2023, Armenia exported 13.1 thousand tons of aluminum foil, which is 16.5% less than last year's volume (versus a decline of 8.6% for the same period in 2022). The customs value of exported foil decreased significantly - by 25.3% to $49.3 million. According to the RA Statistics Committee, over the 8 months of 2023, the volume of aluminum foil production in Armenia accelerated in an annual decline from 4.2% to 19.1%, amounting to 17.501 thousand tons.
At the end of 2022, a total of 32.544 thousand tons of aluminum foil were produced in Armenia, with an annual decline of 2.8%. It is noteworthy that in 2017 "Armenal" produced 33.724 thousand tons of foil, in 2019 - 30.547 thousand tons, in 2020 - 35.482 thousand tons, in 2021 - 33.481 thousand tons.
