Valery Safarian: Armenia, Belgium have prospects for opening joint  ventures in field of nanotechnology

ArmInfo. Within the EU, Armenia is one of the developed centers in the field of IT, pharmaceuticals and logistics, just as during the Soviet era the state was the most developed in these areas.

Armenian-Belgian Chamber of Commerce Valery Safarian stated on  October 19 during the conference held within the framework of the  visit of the first economic mission of Belgian entrepreneurs from the  Wallonia region to Armenia.

"And being in isolation, Armenia needs the opening of markets and  roads," he said.  In particular, Mr. Safarian noted that  nanotechnology is developed in Armenia, while Wallonia is also  actively developing this area.

"Consequently, I think that there are prospects for opening joint  ventures here. And in general, Belgium is interesting for Armenian  entrepreneurs as a country that can open the EU to them," said the  head of the Chamber.

In turn, Eric Bletard, Trade and Investment Counselor at Wallonia  Export and  Investment Agency emphasized that Armenia has a good  reputation as a country with high IT potential. "Our companies have  difficulty finding good IT specialists because universities do not  train the required number of them. I think that Armenia in this sense  is a country that can help Belgium. We have a lot in common," he  concluded.

According to the RA Statistics Committee data, foreign trade turnover  between Armenia and Belgium in January-August 2023 amounted to $96  million, which is 5.6% higher than the year-ago. In particular, the  volume of exports of Armenian goods to Belgium amounted to $57  million, with an increase of 7.3% over the year, while the volume of  imports increased by 3.1% to $39 million.
