ArmInfo. In 2024, the volumes of electricity produced by renewable energy sources will account for 17% of the total volumes of electricity produced in Armenia. This forecast was made by Chairman of the Commission for the Regulation of Public Services, Garegin Baghramyan, at parliamentary hearings on the draft state budget of the country for 2024.
According to him, next year the volume of generation from renewable energy sources will increase by 1.5%. The fastest growing sector of renewable energy continues to be solar energy, which provides an y-o- y increase in production volumes of 60 MW. As of June 1 of this year, there are more than 12,000 autonomous solar energy producers in the republic with an installed capacity of 220 MW.
Armenia plans to increase the capacity of solar and wind power plants to a total of at least 2000 MW by 2040. As a result, the share of electricity produced using renewable energy sources in gross final electricity consumption in 2030, including large hydroelectric power plants, will reach about 50%, and by 2040 - about 60%. This is stated in the updated strategic plan for the development of the energy sector of the Republic of Armenia until 2040 and the schedule ensuring its implementation. As stated in the explanation to the document, solar stations with a capacity of about 1000 MW will be built, including autonomous energy production. In parallel, it is planned to promote market mechanisms to promote the construction of storage facilities. In 2030-2040, small and systemic wind power plants with a total capacity of up to 500 MW will be built, combining them with storage plants if necessary (at competitive prices for electricity supplied from them).
