RA government proposes to extend tax preferences for import of  electric vehicles for another year

ArmInfo. At the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs on November 10,Vahan  Kerobyan, who presented amendments to the Tax Code, expressed hope for organizing an assembly plant for the production of electric vehicles in Armenia on November 10 at a meeting of the parliamentary commission on economic issues.

According to the Minister, the RA government proposes to exempt the  import of electric vehicles from VAT for another year, but this time  less than 5 years old, so as not to turn the country into a car  cemetery.  Kerobyan said that after the law came into force in 2020,  the import of electric vehicles into the country increased 12-fold  that year, and by 80% in 2022, up to 3,485 cars. In the first 10  months of this year, 4,195 cars have already been imported into the  country. Within the EAEU, a quota for duty-free import of electric  vehicles in the amount of 7 and 8 thousand pcs has been established  for Armenia in 2022-2023. Thus, the country has not yet exhausted the  established quota.  Kerobyan noted that the Ministry of Economy is  conducting negotiations on the assembly of electric vehicles in the  country.
