ArmInfo. The largest telecommunications operator in Armenia, Team Telecom Armenia, announced the launch of a third international communication channel of strategic importance for the country. The Internet channel will allow to diversify the infrastructure entering the country, increasing the level of Internet security.
The new communication channel with a capacity of more than 1 Tb/s will connect Armenia to Frankfurt, the largest data exchange center in Europe, through Georgia and Russia, becoming an alternative to the existing Georgia-Bulgaria (Sofia) Internet channel running along the bottom of the Black Sea.
Hayk Yesayan, CEO of Team Telecom Armenia said: "Over the past two years, we have significantly improved the existing infrastructure in Armenia, minimizing the number of accidents, but outside the country they still remain uncontrollable. By operating new channels, we prevent the problem of Internet access in the event of international accidents and have another backup route, increasing the level of Internet reliability and information security of the country".
To date, the company has used channels from Georgia and Iran. Let us remind you that thanks to Team, Armenia has also become a transit country for Internet exports for 5 countries in the Middle East.
