Gevorg Papoyan: There cannot be systemic corruption in Ministry of  Economy

ArmInfo. There cannot be systemic corruption in the Ministry of Economy, in the government.  The newly appointed Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan stated during a briefing on March 7.

Answering the question "whether the arrest of the former Minister of  Economy, the Deputy Minister and other employees of the department is  systemic corruption," Papoyan asked not to rush to conclusions and to  wait for the results of the trial. Speaking about new appointments,  the minister noted that competitions have already been announced for  the position of head of the Department, which requires specific  experience and knowledge. In terms of the position of the deputy  minister, Papoyan noted that these are political appointments.

"When it comes to political appointments, then, of course, the person  must be the bearer of the political course. Because if a person does  not believe in this political course, then he can be the best  specialist in the world, but he will not be able to implement it,"  Papoyan noted.

A criminal case was initiated against a number of officials of the  Ministry of Economy and representatives of the private sector on  January 31 of this year. The following people are involved in the  case: director of Synergy, Ashot Hovhannisyan; former employee of the  company, daughter-in-law of the Speaker of Parliament Ani Gevorgyan;  another employee of the company, Lily Mkryan (Gevorgyan and Mkryan  were released on bail, recognizance not to leave and surety), as well  as the heads of the department of public investment policy and  implementation of agricultural programs of the Ministry of Economy,  Lily Sirakanyan and Taron Martirosyan. The dismissed Deputy Minister  of Economy Ani Ispiryan was placed under house arrest.

Former Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan, by decision of the  Anti-Corruption Court, was placed under house arrest for a period of  two months.
