Armenia bans export of scrap metal, metal goods

ArmInfo. Armenia is introducing a ban on the export of scrap and goods made of ferrous and non-ferrous metals from the country. The decision on this was made at a meeting of the RA government on May 23.

As noted in the rationale for the draft decision, the ban is  introduced for a period of six months. The last time a similar ban  will be introduced is December 21, 2023. The adoption of the draft  decision is due to the need to regulate the export of scrap and goods  made of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, develop local production and  provide a raw material base to stimulate the activities of the  metallurgical industry of Armenia.

In the absence of effective deposits of ferrous metals in Armenia,  Armenian metallurgical enterprises use local scrap metal and waste as  raw materials. Based on these facts, the problem of effective use of  scrap and waste of ferrous and non-ferrous metals is very relevant  for providing metalworking and metalworking enterprises in Armenia  with metal raw materials.

Being a strategic product for Armenia, products made of ferrous and  non-ferrous metals are important for increasing the country's defense  capability and state security. From this point of view, the issue of  providing metalworking and metalworking enterprises in Armenia with  the raw materials necessary to obtain finished products from ferrous  and non-ferrous metals is important.
