ArmInfo. The access to the Indian market is one of the directions of the "Crossroads of Peace" project. Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan stated on June 4 in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia during discussions on the implementation of the last year's budget.
According to him, the Iranian port of Chabahar is being considered as a platform for entering the Indian market. A working group led by RA Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan, established by the decision of the Prime Minister, is working on this project. The Armenian side has entered the practical stage of implementation of this program. The Armenian MFA notes the importance of this project. Negotiations are underway on issues related to whether a separate customs point will operate at the Chabahar port or whether the necessary payments can be made directly in India. "Studies are ongoing, and the final decision will be made within a few months", the deputy minister said.
Earlier, Ms. Nilakshi Saha Sinha, the Ambassador of India to Armenia, noted that if Armenia joins the development of the Iranian Chabahar port, the country will be able to overcome the problem of lack of access to the sea. She noted that India is waiting for details from the Armenian side regarding the use of the Chabahar port and will definitely take them into account when it receives clear proposals from Armenia on this issue.
The Chabahar port is being developed jointly by India and Iran. It is an integral part of the North-South project. Experts believe that Armenia's participation in it is important for both Delhi and Tehran.
