ArmInfo. As of the end of May 2024, Armenia has used almost half of the quota of the Eurasian Economic Union for duty-free import of electric vehicles. This was stated by the RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Paponyan in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on June 4.
He noted that if in 2021 several units of electric vehicles were imported to the country, then in 2022 this number increased to several hundred. Last year, 7.1 thousand electric vehicles were imported to Armenia, which, in fact, covered the entire established quota. The Minister stressed the importance of importing environmentally friendly transport, and the decisions taken within the EAEU on this issue are fully justified. If we keep in mind the active development of solar energy, from the generation facilities of which it will be possible to refuel electric vehicles, then we will get an environmentally friendly chain, and this, in turn, will lead to limiting dependence on oil and gas markets.
Notably, from January 1, 2024, the decision of the EEC came into force, according to which individuals and legal entities in Armenia have the right to import vehicles with an electric motor into the country in the amount of 8 thousand units this year.
