Suren Parsyan: Armenia`s economic policy has not changed over past 5  years

ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities are changing, but their thinking and philosophy remain  the same. Economist Suren Parsyan stated during a press conference on June 25.

"If you think that there have been drastic changes in economic policy  over the past 5 years, then I will tell you that the system continues  to serve the banking sector and oligarchic interests. And as a result,   we have economic growth, but the banking system, re-exporters and   oligarchs mostly benefit from it. Nothing has changed in this  sense,"  he said.

In the conditions of such economic growth, without taking into  account its quality, the expert noted that budget flows should be  directed to qualitative changes in the industrial sector, and it is  also worth aiming at entering the American and European markets.  "Yes, Russia is important for us, and has great weight. But in terms  of developing alternatives, we need to enter the European and  American markets," he added. In this vein, Parsyan noted that the  opportunities available today should be used to find new markets.

At the same time, according to the expert, Armenia should try to get  out of the political discourse: <West>, <Russia>, <Iran>, <China>,  etc.. "Our problem now is the economic one. Yes, we need to take into  account political factors. But we should consider all the  possibilities. Unfortunately, when issues related to infrastructure  and their unblocking are discussed, we in a certain sense set  ourselves restrictions, saying that, for example, we will not deal  with Turkiye at all, but only with Russia and Iran. But in this  region, all options should be discussed more openly and the root of  the problem should be looked at more deeply.  There is no longer talk  of the authorities and the opposition here. We need to calm our  emotions to make correct forecasts and proposals," Parsyan concluded.
