ArmInfo. The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) could and would like to invest projects in Armenia totaling $500 million over the next three years, from 2024 to 2026. Senior Managing Director of the Eurasian Development Bank Denis Ilyin stated this on the sidelines of the EDB Annual Meeting and Business Forum in a conversation with ArmInfo and Sputnik-Armenia correspondents on June 27, touching on the prospects for revising the Bank's country strategy for Armenia.
"In principle, a volume of 500 million dollars is absolutely feasible for Armenia. Investment projects worth 150-200 million a year are real for Armenia. This is, first of all, the energy sector in its various areas. The issue of investing in the modernization of the Armenian nuclear energy industry is being discussed, The Prime Minister of Armenia has repeatedly stated the priority of this area. The construction of a new station is still more of a project, but nevertheless... That is, there are projects," he said, adding that the Ministry of Economy of Armenia has already turned to the EDB for assistance in this regard. modernization of the Armenian nuclear industry. Ilyin also recalled the interaction of the Bank with the Zangezur Copper- Molybdenum Combine, etc.
To clarify how likely it is that Armenia's reorientation to the West will lead to the freezing of the Bank's projects in the country, Ilyin called for the separation of the Eurasian Development Bank and the Eurasian Economic Union. He added that none of the Bank's documents contain the task of working only with the EAEU member countries and on its territory. According to him, a good example of this is Tajikistan, as well as Uzbekistan.
"That is, for us, joining or working within the EAEU is a bonus, but this is not a mandatory condition for us. That is, as long as Armenia is a shareholder of the EDB, the Bank will work with it. The decision of the Armenian leadership to participate in some other political , economic projects does not change my parent," summed up Ilyin.
