Few concerned in Armenia over high pesticide level in food - NGO head

ArmInfo. Few people in Armenia are interested in the fact that the Armenian consumer also consumes  vegetables and fruits with a high content of pesticides. Thus, the president of the public organization "Informed and Protected Consumer" Babken Pipoyan commented on the information that Rosselkhoznadzor is temporarily stopping the acceptance of vegetables and fruits from a number of Armenian companies due to the content of  a large amount of pesticides in them.

He noted that the Russian side sent a notice to the Armenian side, in  which it notified that the export of agricultural products to a  number of companies had ceased.

"Along with the headlines "Russia stops imports from Armenia," the  "opinions" of know-it-alls begin to be replicated. Pro-Russians  express enthusiasm, confident that this is their response to the  anti-Russian policy of the Armenian side, Russophobes are trying to  justify their anti- Russian policy in the same way.

Meanwhile, few people are interested in the fact that the export  capabilities of only a few companies were limited on the grounds that  back in May the Russian side notified them that the permissible  amount of pesticides was exceeded and that measures were needed, but  has still not received a response on the results of the work on their  elimination. The letter also calls for conducting a study and  reporting the results to the Russian side," Pipoyan stated.

According to him, sad as it may be, de facto Armenian so-called  "radical patriots" are absolutely not interested in the fact that the  Armenian consumer also consumed products in which the content of  pesticides exceeded residual quantities.

"In fact, human life and health are subject to political overtones.  Meanwhile, the government agency responsible for this area is obliged  to respond to the situation and answer at least 4 questions.

Did the Russian side receive a notification in May of this year that  the residual amount of pesticides exceeded the norm? If the body in  charge of the area received it, what actions did it take? Why didn't  he inform the Russian side about the results, and if he discovered  dangers that threaten us, then why didn't he inform Armenian  consumers as well? If he did not take any action after receiving the  letter, then why did he show criminal inaction, putting both  consumers and businessmen at risk," asked Pipoyan.

According to the head of the Public Organization, the very fact that  the activities of not all economic entities are limited should at  least suggest that the problem should be looked for elsewhere.

In connection with the current situation, ArmInfo contacted the Food  Safety Inspection Authority of the Republic of Armenia to clarify the  situation, but they did not comment on the photo of the official  notice that appeared on social networks. The Authority promised that  as soon as they have information on what happened, they will issue a  statement to the press.
