ArmInfo. Starting from August 15 this year, the Central Bank of Armenia will put into circulation the transformed 5,000 and 10,000 dram banknotes of the 2024 issue. This was noted in the press release of the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia.
The press release states that the 5,000 dram banknotes of the 1999-2018 issue and the 10,000 dram banknotes of the 2003-2018 issue will remain in circulation without restrictions and without changes in the terms of circulation.
The above-mentioned banknotes of the 2024 issue have undergone the following changes compared to their 2018 counterparts: on the front side, in the upper right corner, the year of issue "2024" is indicated, and the signatures of the Chairman of the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia and the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Armenia appear vertically; on the back side, in the lower left corner, the denomination of the banknote is indicated, printed with optically variable ink.
The size of the 5,000 banknote is 140 x 72 mm, and the 10,000 banknote is 145 x 72 mm. The banknotes are printed on a high-quality composite substrate Hybrid™, which is cotton paper coated on both sides with a thin layer of polyester.
The 5,000 banknote has a multi-color watermark with a portrait of William Saroyan. The 10,000 banknote has a multi-color watermark with a portrait of Komitas. Both banknotes also have a two-tone watermark in the form of their respective denominations. The main color of the 5,000 banknote is pink, and the 10,000 banknote is gray. Let us recall that on November 22, 2018, on the day of the 25th anniversary of the Armenian dram, 3rd generation composite banknotes in denominations of 10,000, 20,000 and 50,000 drams were put into circulation, and later, on December 25, 2018, banknotes in denominations of 1,000, 2,000 and 5,000 drams. Moreover, the 2,000 dram banknote was put into circulation for the first time.
