ArmInfo. On September 3, a direct flight between Armenia and China was opened for the first time. Flights on the Urumqi-Yerevan-Urumqi route will be operated twice a week - on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The day before, a solemn ceremony to welcome the flight was held at Zvartnots Airport. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia Gnel Sanosyan, the Ambassador of Armenia to China Vahe Gevorgyan, the Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Armenia Chen Min, and other officials.
Sanosyan called this flight historic, given that air traffic was opened between China and Yerevan for the first time. "We believe that there is a great demand in this direction, and this will make life easier and save a lot of time for people who are going to fly from Armenia to China and vice versa. The flights will certainly serve to increase passenger traffic, will contribute not only to the growth of business contacts, but also to cultural communication between the two nations. Emphasizing the economic component, I must note that the direction of business tourism with China is very promising, and in the case of direct air traffic, these contacts will be facilitated," the minister said in a conversation with journalists.
Sanosyan noted that the goal is to open new direct flights to and from Armenia and expand the geography of flights. "This is the result of a consistent policy. We strive to have new directions in the aviation sector, constantly expand the geography of flights to Armenia and other directions from Armenia, as a result of which interest in our country will increase. We will not stop, because there are a number of new directions on which consistent work is being carried out. In the near future, we will have similar new flights to major cities and countries of the world," the minister emphasized. It should be noted that the flights are operated by China Southern Airlines.
