ArmInfo.In the period from January to August 2024 and from September 1 to 8, 2024, 6,285 electric vehicles have already been registered at zero customs duty. By the end of the year, another 1,115 vehicles may be imported to Armenia at a preferential tariff.
The State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia reminded that by the decision of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission dated November 24, 2023, No. 134 and the resolution of the Government of the Republic of Armenia dated December 28, 2023, a quota for 2024 for electric vehicles classified under the HS code 8703 80 000 2 was set at 7,400 vehicles with a preferential import customs duty of 0%. This means that for the registration of each subsequent electric vehicle exceeding the above quota, in accordance with the general rules of the EAEU in 2024, an import customs duty rate of 15% will be applied.
At the same time, the State Revenue Committee noted that, according to the legislation, this tariff quota cannot be used in the case of filing a preliminary customs declaration for a vehicle that has not yet been imported to Armenia.
The State Revenue Committee also reminds that for 2025, the quota is set at 8,000 electric vehicles (for vehicles with an electric engine under code 8703 80 000 2). In order to use the quota, it will be necessary to submit and register a customs declaration or customs order for vehicles imported to the Republic of Armenia, starting from 01.01.2025.
At the same time, according to the Tax Code of the Republic of Armenia, the VAT exemption on the import of electric vehicles, for which there are no quantitative restrictions, will continue to be in effect until 01.01.2026.
