RA NA Speaker: We aim to triple solar energy production by 2030,  ensuring at least 15% of Armenia`s energy balance from renewable  sources

ArmInfo. For Armenia, a country that faces complex geopolitical challenges, leveraging  science and technology is not only about economic growth, but also national security, resilience, and sustainability. This was stated by Alen Simonyan, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of  Armenia, addressing the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

According to him, as quoted by the press service of the Armenian  parliament, because the applications of science, technology and  innovation can also be used in ways that harm people and prevent from  achieving goals, the choices in how to harness STI  to maximize the  social, economic and environmental benefits, while managing the  downsides and problems become paramount.

"One of Armenia's key priorities is the development of renewable  energy. With 270 sunny days a year, our country can make solar energy  a central part of our energy strategy. We aim to triple our solar  energy production by 2030, ensuring that at least 15% of the national  energy mix comes from renewable sources.  This shift toward clean  energy reduces our reliance on fossil fuels and cuts greenhouse gas  emissions, fostering sustainable development. Science and technology  are instrumental in helping Armenia manage resources more efficiently  and mitigate the risks posed by climate change. Progress in these  fields offer solutions to the challenges we face, from enhancing  agricultural productivity to improving disaster management. By  prudently adopting these technologies, we are not only protecting our  environment, but also securing a better future for the next  generation," the speaker said.  He added that it is important to   embrace sound technological solutions. Armenia, like many other  countries, is focused on reducing carbon dioxide emissions,  conserving resources, and promoting a culture of environmental  responsibility. "This is a collective effort, and we all have a role  in ensuring that technological advancements are used wisely to  protect our planet. Science and technology also serve as powerful  tools for peacebuilding. Scientific innovations can help us meet  human needs: from reducing conflicts over natural resources to  protecting human rights. Armenia is committed to using technology to  this end," the RA NA Chairman concluded.
