ArmInfo. From January 31 to July 31, 2025, Armenia will impose a ban on the export of ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap and waste, as well as some used ferrous and non- ferrous metal products from the country. The decision to this effect was made at a meeting of the RA government on November 7.
As noted in the justification for the draft decision, the ban is introduced for a period of six months. The last time a similar ban was introduced was on May 23, 2024 (previously - on December 21, 2023). The adoption of the draft decision is due to the need to regulate the export of ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap and goods, develop local production and provide a raw material base to stimulate the activities of the metallurgical industry of Armenia.
In the absence of effective ferrous metal deposits in Armenia, Armenian metallurgical enterprises use local scrap metal and waste as raw materials. Based on these facts, the problem of the efficient use of ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap and waste is very urgent for providing metallurgical enterprises of Armenia with metal raw materials. Being a strategic product for Armenia, products made of ferrous and non-ferrous metals are important for increasing the country's defense capability and national security. From this point of view, the issue of providing metallurgical and metalworking enterprises of Armenia with raw materials necessary for obtaining finished products from ferrous and non-ferrous metals is important. At the same time, it is proposed to exclude equipment classified under HS code 8453 (equipment for the preparation, tanning or processing of fur or leather, for the manufacture or repair of leather footwear or other products made of fur or leather) from the list of items prohibited for export.
