Armenian builders gearing up for major projects and adopting European  technical standards

ArmInfo. "The current construction serves as a preliminary training for future ambitious, intricate and challenging  projects," stated Yeghiazar Vardanyan, the head of the Urban Development Committee, during his address at the congress of the Union of Builders of Armenia today.

He noted that the committee has been actively collaborating with the  Union of Builders to develop new licensing and certification  procedures. <In response to industry demands, the development of a  pricing concept in construction is being completed, the adoption of  which will be a turning point. Starting next year, there are plans to  provide technical translations of EU urban development standards and  facilitate their implementation,> Vardanyan noted.  He called for  joint efforts to transform the construction industry from a service  into a serious major industry. "I am convinced that given the current  challenges, with a willingness to overcome them, Armenia's  construction potential can be utilized to implement such ambitious  projects such as renovating Yerevan's housing stock, building a new  metro station, constructing Academic City, large and small  reservoirs, bridges and tunnels. The principle of ensuring high  quality should be of primary importance," he noted.

At the congress, a new charter for the Union of Builders of Armenia  was approved, and elections for the Council were held. The newly  formed Council then elected Vahan Harutyunyan as the new president of  the Union of Builders.  It should be noted that construction  currently contributes to 15.9% of the annual GDP growth, ranking  second only to the trade sector at 19.5%.
