Economy Ministry`s Review: Top employment sectors in Armenia: trade,  education and manufacturing; highest salaries: information and  communications, financial sector, and mining industry

ArmInfo. The number of formally employed in Armenia at the end of September 2024 reached 776.8 thousand people, which is 5.6% higher than the previous year.  The leading sectors of employment are wholesale and retail trade, education and manufacturing. This is stated in the Ministry of Economy's review titled .

As of the reporting date, there are 130.500 people employed in  wholesale and retail trade, 125.600 people in the educational sector,  and 91.400 people in the manufacturing industry.  Additionally, a  significant number of workers, 52, 800 are employed in the healthcare  and social services sector, followed by 45,000 workers in information  and communication, and 42,200 workers in construction.  , the review says The average monthly salary in September  2024 was AMD 279,279, showing a 6.8% increase compared to the same  period last year. Specifically, in the public sector, the average  salary in September 2024 was AMD 218,809 (a 7.2% increase over the  year), while in the private sector it was AMD 303,015 (a 6.5% annual  increase). 

Top 3 highest-paying sectors in September 2024were: information and  communication (835,840 drams), financial and insurance activities  (809,417 drams), mining and quarrying (478,763 drams).  According to  the source, there was an increase in average wages in all sectors of  employment in September 2024 compared to September 2023, except for  information and communication, construction, and supply of  electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning. The sectors with the  highest growth were financial and insurance activities (by 40.4%),  agriculture, forestry and fisheries (by 13.5%), and manufacturing (by  13.1%).

It should be noted that according to the RA Statistical Committee, in  the first quarter of 2024, the unemployment rate in Armenia was  15.5%, while a year earlier for the same period, the unemployment  rate was slightly lower at 13.7%. In parallel with this, the level of  employment in the country has also decreased accordingly, from 50.9%  in the first quarter of 2023 to 48.7% for the reporting period.
