
ArmInfo. November 18 to 22, 2024, in Armenia's interbank foreign exchange market, USD and RUB transactions were effected all the days except for Friday, with no EUR transactions effected for the third week running. USD transactions showed a 51% decline against a 3- fold growth the previous week. The total amount of USD transactions insignificantly exceeded the total amount of RUB transactions.
During the period under review against the previous week (Nov. 11 to 15, 2024), USD purchases and sales in the intrabank foreign exchange market showed a growth, with EUR purchases showing a growth, with EUR sales showing a slower growth and RUB purchases and sales showing a decline.
November 18 to 22, 2024, saw further but slower AMD depreciation against the USD - AMD 388.8/$1 to AMD 390/$1, with an AMD depreciation trend toward the EUR - AMD 409.5/EUR 1 to AMD 410.8/EUR 1, with further but much slower AMD appreciation against the RUB - AMD 3.88/RUB 1 to AMD 3.8/RUB 1.
On November 22, 2023, the AMD/USD exchange rate was AMD 402.3/$1, AMD/EUR exchange rate, AMD 438/EUR 1 and AMD/RUB exchange rate, AMD 4.54/RUB 1, which is evidence of y/y AMD appreciation against the USD, EUR and RUB.
For the period under review, the CBA reports four USD and RUB transactions (except for Nov. 22), in Armenia's interbank foreign exchange. As a result, $6.7mln transactions were effected at an average exchange rate of AMD 390.3/$1 (against AMD 388.3/$1 the previous week), RUB 760mln transactions, at an average exchange rate of AMD 3.9/RUB. The period under review saw the largest volume of USD and RUB transactions on Nov. 18 ($2.7mln and RUB 360mln).
November 18 to 22, 2024, against the period under review (Nov. 11 to 15, 2024), in Armenia's intrabank foreign exchange market, USD purchases showed a 15% growth against a 15% decline, with USD sales showing a 21% growth against a 6.4% decline. EUR purchases showed a 20% growth against 12.2% decline, with EUR sales showing a 6% growth against an 18.1% growth. RUB purchases showed a 3.5% decline against an 11% growth, and RUB sales showed an 11.2% decline against a 10% decline.
During the period under review, USD purchases totaled $132.8 mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 387.87/$1, EUR 31.5mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 407.94/EUR 1, and over RUB 9.9bln at an average exchange rate of AMD 3.86/RUB 1. USD sales totaled $203.5 mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 390.47/$1, EUR sales totaled EUR 56.04mln at an average exchange rate of AMD 414.15/EUR 1, and RUB sales RUB 3.8bln at an average exchange rate of AMD 3.94/RUB 1. The largest USD purchases and sales were reported on November 20 ($32.2mln and $52.6mln), The largest EUR purchases were recorded on Nov. 20 (EUR 7.3mln), with the largest EUR sales recorded on Nov. 19 (EUR 16.4mln). The largest RUB purchases were recorded on Nov. 19 (RUB over 2.1bln) with the largest RUB sales recorded on Nov. 20 (over RUB 1.3bln).
In January-September, 2024, the CBA made $617.8mln interventions in Armenia's foreign exchange market only in April-September, with only purchase transactions effected ($20mln in April, $136.5mln in May, $100mln in June and $110mln in July, $132.3mln in August, and $119mln in September). The AMD/USD exchange rate was AMD 388.15/$1 this September against AMD 386.60/$1 last September, when purchase translations were last effected, with greater depreciation against December 2022 (AMD 393.50/$1).
In January-September, 2024, in the intrabank foreign exchange market, purchases totaled $4.8bln, EUR 1.2bln and RUB 638.7 bln, and sales totaled $7.6bln, EUR 2.9bln and RUB 204.4bln, which formed the following buying rates in September 2024: the AMD 385.93/$1, AMD 426.71/EUR 1 and AMD 4.24/RUB 1 against AMD 402.72/$1, and AMD 437.90/EUR 1 and RUB 4.43/1 RUB in December 2023. The selling rates were as follow: AMD 388.55/$1, AMD, 428.79/EUR 1, and AMD 4.43/RUB 1 against AMD 406.14/$1, AMD 445.57/EUR 1 and AMD 4.5/RUB 1 in December 2023.
In January-September, 2024, on the interbank foreign exchange market, $743.8 mln, EUR 13.2mln (with no EUR transactions effected this June) and RUB 30.3bln transactions were effected, which was accompanied by AMD appreciation against the RUB to AMD 4.24/RUB 1, against the USD, AMD 387.95/$1 and against the EUR, AMD 430.87/EUR 1, this September against AMD 4.47/RUB 1, AMD 405.62/$1 and EUR 444.30/EUR 1 respectively in December 2023. The largest volume of USD and EU transactions ($195.3mln and EUR 14.4mln) was recorded this September, with the largest volume RUB transactions recorded this August (RUB 7.2bln).
RUB transactions on the interbank foreign exchange market of Armenia started on March 14, 2022, with RUB 8.7bln transactions effected until the end of that year, with RUB 17.5bln transactions effected in 2023. This was accompanied by AMD depreciation against the RUB in March-December 2022 - AMD 4.86 to AMD 5.8/RUB 1, with AMD appreciation against the RUB to AMD 4.47/RUB 1 by the end of 2023.
This June, after an 8-year-long interval, the foreign exchange stock market resumed operation this June and saw $14.7mln transactions (in June-October), accompanied by AMD appreciation - AMD 389.85/$1 this October against AMD 389.85/$1 this June.
