ArmInfo. According to official Georgian statistics, Armenia has exported 60 million kWh of electricity to Turkey through Georgia, as reported by Prof. Vahe Davtyan, an expert in cross-border infrastructure issues and a Doctor of Political Sciences, on his Facebook page.
"During the first nine months of 2024, Armenia exported 60 million kWh of electricity to Turkey through Georgia. It is currently unclear what kind of deal we are talking about. Is this an Armenian-Turkish swap agreement or something else? It can be assumed that one of the parties involved in this deal is one (or several) of the trading organizations in the electricity sector licensed by the Armenian government. This falls under the energy market liberalization program, which began implementation on February 1, 2022," the expert emphasized. According to him, while the volume of 60 million kWh itself may seem small, the direction of the export, gives each kWh significant geo-economic importance. This issue, as Davtyan noted, requires further study.
