ArmInfo. On November 28, at a regular meeting, the Armenian government approved a quota for the duty-free import of 8,000 electric vehicles in 2025.
As stated in the explanation of the decision, 5,000 of them will be able to be imported by individuals and individual entrepreneurs, as well as legal entities that do not have dealer-distributor agreements directly with the car manufacturer. The remaining 3,000 are allowed to be imported by dealers in the presence of distribution agreements concluded directly with the car manufacturer on the relevant documentation on warranty and post-warranty service.
At the same time, citizens will be able to use only one of the above options for importing cars at zero customs duty.
On December 28, 2023, the Armenian Cabinet approved a decision stating that an agreement was reached during the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council to extend the benefit for the import of electric vehicles for another two years. A tariff quota of 8,000 electric vehicles (classified under HS code 8703 80 000 2) per year was set for Armenia for 2024-2025.
And if previously the import of these vehicles did not exceed the established quota, and there were even years when only a few dozen electric vehicles were imported, unprecedented activity was noted during this year, in connection with which on October 10 the government distributed the remaining 600 units in reserve, and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposed in 2025 to give preference to the importer of a new car that is no more than 2 years old. However, on November 13, he announced in parliament the decision not to introduce such restrictions, since he believed that <government agencies had communicated the issue incorrectly>.
