ArmInfo. Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hakob Arshakyan took part in the UN Internet Governance Forum 2024 in Riyadh.
As reported by the press service of the National Assembly, in his speech at the panel discussion on the sidelines of the forum, the Vice Speaker presented the policy pursued by Armenia in the field of Internet management, high technologies, favorable legislative conditions, inviting colleagues to cooperate.
Hakob Arshakyan emphasized that global digital cooperation is becoming increasingly important in an interconnected world, where digital technologies have become an integral part of almost all spheres of life, starting from borders, becoming a global challenge affecting both human rights and democracy, as well as society and the digital sovereignty of states. At the same time, the vice-speaker of the National Assembly drew the attention of those present to the initiative of the RA government "Crossroads of the World", aimed at unblocking regional infrastructures and promoting regional connectivity, emphasizing the role of developing a network of Internet channels.
Parliamentarians from Argentina, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Namibia and Pakistan attended the discussion as speakers.
As part of the forum, the Vice Speaker met with the Head of the Secretariat of the UN Internet Governance Council Chengetai Masango and the President and CEO of the Internet Society Foundation Sally Wentworth.
The interlocutors exchanged ideas on further deepening cooperation with the Internet Governance Council, as well as the possibilities of organizing international events in Armenia.
Meetings were also held with representatives of the host country's parliament, as well as with other partner circles participating in the event.
