ArmInfo. Dairy products with and without milk fat substitutes will have to be distinguished by color in retail outlets in Armenia. At the plenary session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on January 21, amendments to the Law on Trade and Services and the Code of Administrative Offenses were discussed in the first session.
According to Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Tatevik Sargsyan, dairy products with substitutes can often be seen on store shelves, for which consumers pay more, but receive a lower quality product. In order to avoid further processes related to misleading customers, the Armenian government proposes to label dairy products by color. Pure dairy products will have to be labeled green, and products with substitutes - orange. Stores will have to ensure that these products are placed on different shelves with the appropriate color.
The Deputy Minister noted that dairy products with substitutes are not dangerous to health, but they cannot be considered a dairy product. Administrative liability measures are envisaged for violating this requirement.
Sargsyan also reported that the presented package will not create additional problems for retail outlets, since they already have the appropriate areas. Dairy producers are given the opportunity to voluntarily indicate dairy products with and without milk fat substitutes on their labels, presenting the advantages of their products.
The package also proposes a solution to problems associated with the sale of meat. When selling this type of product, which was slaughtered in slaughterhouses, place the slaughter dates of the cattle, its place of origin and the veterinarian's conclusion on the quality of the meat in a visible place on store shelves. Violation of the new rules will result in administrative fines.
